Happy Friday to all of you....

It has been a wonderful nice day not too hot and a little breeze.  I went to Meijer this morning and it was crowded which is unusual for an early morning but then I remembered that this is graduation weekend for the local seniors. People were out getting prepared for all of the partys.
I had been working on a challenge quilt for Little Quilts forum and somehow it is messed up so I am going to have to cut more rectangles for the blocks. And I thought I was doing well. There are only 5 blocks with the patchwork so it won't be hard.
I received this morning the nicest surprise from my friend Lillian of http://lillianscupboard.wordpress.com/  It is a blue ribbon winner of a potholder she entered in her county's fair. It is so cute. I love the little Dutch girl and the patchwork she did on it.
Thanks Lillian. I don't know how to do a very good Link. LOL.

I hope everyone has a wonderful three-day holiday weekend.

Summertime and the living is easy....

Summer has sprung on us and it is great and I have the AC on as it is too hot upstairs at night without it.
I have been planting some flowers - zinnias and vinca - I have my geranium hanging pot up on the porch too. I only have to do a pot of impatiens now. I used to love to do this type of gardening but now it wears me out. I get down on my knees and can barely stand up afterwards. LOL.
I went to Joann's today to get a few things and then I went to a fairly new thrift store. It is in an old ToysRUs building and is so nice and clean. They have several around here called Ohio Thrift. They didn't have any fabrics or old machines like some people can find in them. The only thing I got was a 9" sq.  stainless steel baking pan that is in perfect shape and only $1.91. I was a little disappointed.
This is the doll quilt I made for the lady in Iowa. She said she liked and it is almost Amish LOL. She is sending mine soon. I am not worried. This will be my last doll quilt for swapping. I want to make other things. I am now making a pin cushion for a  swap.
I am doing the bingo over at  The Quilt Shoppe's blog and so far I have 3 words. They are giving 3 prizes every day which is nice. Go over to Jenny's for a giveaway for May. See the button on my sidebar.

No fun in the sun today...

Rain, rain go away come again in two weeks. LOL It has been another dreary day with only a peek of the sun.
My DH hosed off his lawnmower and trimmed some grass. He loves to work outside.
I mailed off my package for my Secret Pal who lives in Pa. and also the doll quilt swap to Iowa for Gladie. She lives on a dairy farm and has what sounds like a great life. But I know farming is  hard. We have a friend who owns 3 or 4 small farms which he plants. He loves the country life.
I received my Secret Pal box from Tanya in Arizona and she really gave me some wonderful stuff. The larger pieces of fabri c are 1/2 yds. Very generous and two kinds of chocolates. Yummo. I hope whomever got her name is equally as generous.
I am in another pincushion swap over at Block Central they are a lot of fun and people come up with the cutest ideas.  It doesn't start until June to give people time to make up their minds to join.
The big quilt show is in June and a lot of the Ohio members of HGTV quilt forum are coming again to GardenPat's house that is near the convention center downtown. I still don't know if I will attend even though I would love to go the show. I rode down last year with Britgal (Jennifer) who lives fairly close to me but I haven't heard from her and I hate to be the one to do the contacting.
Well that's it
Have a great weekend

Sunny and humid today...

It has been a very nice day. Went to the store like we do every Friday. I got 3 tomato plants and we dug up the patch we use for them. Just letting the damp ground dry out a little.
We used to live on an old country road where there were fields and farms across the road and a few homes on our side.  This was in the 1970's early on.  Then one day in 1974 a man knocked on the door wanting me to sign to have our area  taken into Columbus. I refused. I guess the farmers wanted it to lower their taxes. Ha! What a joke. First the pig farm disappeared and what looked like a million houses popped up in that land.  The rest of the land around there was made commercial and you can imagine what happened next. All kinds of stuff came in and when the apartments were being built behind us but south of our houses. We moved and got the heck out of there. That was in 1990. When we ride down our old street our old house is now a State Farm office. Our neighbor's to the north house is gone and a Wendy's is sitting there. The house to our direct south is gone and was moved to a larger lot in a different neighborhood. The land is now the entrance to a defunct shopping center.  In the field across is a Kroger shopping center which I  go to quite often.  Columbus is now the largest land city in Ohio and I see why they are eating up the county. We have excellent services here. The mayor is a great guy and has been in office for a long time.
Being from Indianapolis we had there what was called unigov. The city took the whole county in but there are still pockets of independent towns like Speedway and Beech Grove. Indianapolis is huge
but I don't miss living there. Columbus has been my home for 38 years most of them good. I love Ohioans they are really just like Hoosiers in so many ways.
I have started a new doll quilt for the swap and it has completely  gone in a new direction.

This is  a photo of my husband and his brother in the yard at the house they grew up in on the NW side of Indy. DH is the driver.

Warm, windy and mostly cloudy...

We are experiencing some really warm days this week. Now there is a tornado watch for a fourth of the state. I can just hope it is a watch only.
I have finally started my doll quilt for May. It is a churn dash from Debbie Mumm's site.  Some of the directions are not real clear but I am just taking my time. I bought a new iron today a gift for myself for Mother's Day. It is a Shark electronic iron and is pretty nifty. My old one has a scorched place on the plate and I was unable to remove it. I will keep it for back up.
I have two doilies started and a red work embroidery too. But I just sit and read a wonderful book called The American Wife it is based loosely on the Bush's or that is what I think anyway.
Oh and by the way I got The Farmer's Wives  quilting book and CD thru Half.com I became interested in it when my friend Lillian told about her copy. I copy her recipes and her books too. LOL
That is it

Have a Happy Mother's Day
