Winter is knocking on the door...

I just wish it wouldn't rain so much.
I haven't made the new block for BB's blog but will get on it soon.

But this is the top I made last winter and haven't quilted yet.

Two more blocks I have finished.

The first one is #40 in Barbara Brackman's blog CW BOW. It is called Order Number Eleven.

This next one I love it is #41 Red White Blue Quilt

Applique is my favorite type for making blocks.  I started with applique and it has stuck with me.

have a great week.

Another beautiful day in the neighborhood...

and the leaves just keep falling. Dick has mulched about 7 cans full this week. The ash tree in front is about empty.
We went to Springfield this morning to one of the great antique malls over there. I had a blast blowing my small wad. The hammered aluminum pot and lid is something I have always wanted and I kind of love the covered soup bowls too. They are heavy stoneware so I can heat with them in the micro.
I also got some small things too to add to a collection.
I have had one of the best weekends I can think of in a long time.
Thanks God for making it so.

What a beautiful day so far....

took a ride up north to see our daughter -- it is along a river and the trees are so pretty.
I also went to a store I have been wanting to try and I love it -- Trader's Joe's. I bought cracker slices of Cheddar, Pita chips, low sodium Chicken Broth for soup, a pie pumpkin ( which I may try cooking),etc, it was so much fun trying a new store.
I also had a nice thing come in the mail from Wendy Ireland Dragon Quilter at the board she did a wonderful job picking everything out for me.Here is a photo. Thanks Wendy in Wyoming

What a beautiful day here....

It was very foggy here this morning  but cleared up before the weather girl said it would. I believe it was 74° around 5 o'clock. I hope all of the bad weather this country has had this year is over. We are supposed to have nice weather until next week.
I took a photo of my outdoor Fall display I haven't done it for a few years. I also have two stray cats that are coming around to eat here.  One is coal black with the greenest eyes. The other is dark gray  with odd eyes but very beautiful. He came up to the patio door one night and my cat got so excited.

Have a great evening.

A cold and rainy day in Buckeyeland

It is really fall-like out there now. Hopefully it will warm and have some sun this week.
I picked up my new glasses this morning they are line free bi-focs with red frames. Very expensive which is terrible. But there is a litle guarantee with them.
I have finished the #38 block of Barbara Brackman's blog CW BOW. Ohio Star. I am having a little trouble with my sight but with the new glasses feel it will get better.

A cold and windy and rainy day here in Buckeyeland

I got new glasses this morning and they are great so far I have switched from Lined Bi-focs to unlined. Red frames too.
I made the #38 block for the CW BOW from Barbara Brackman's blog.

A cold and wet day here in Buckeye land...

I got new glasses today and they are hard getting used to. I switched from lined bi- focs to unlined. I will get used to them. Very expensive nowadays too.
I made my block from 3 weeks ago Ohio Star #36

September 11th is over for this year.

I watched a lot of the shows about this day 10 years ago. And it still bothers me to see those buildings come down with all the people in them. I was working that day and I remember not believing what I was seeing. It was so surreal.
I also remember the days after when the skies were so quiet. We live in the flight path for the airport . We hear planes all day usually.
I made my 37th block for the BOW Civil War QAL It is call ed Confederate Rose.

I bought this fall fabric and thought it looked good for this block. It's not a rose for sure.
I have laundry to do so I had better get started. Oh by the way I made an apple cake this week end and it turned out well.

Pretty Friday...

the sun is shining but it is still chilly.
The hunt for the best recipe for Salt Rising bread has come to a stand still. I tried a couple recipes but they were failures. No more for me I hate to waste ingredients.
I haven't sewn this week only worked on my new counted cross stitch project which is almost finished.
Went to the grocery store this morning and mailed my pkg. for my Secret Pal all the way to Washington state. It is so handy having a PO in the store.
We are having BLT's for supper the tomatoes are winding down in our yard.

Happy belated Labor Day...

it has really cooled off here. It is only 55° at 8;25 am. I love cooler temps myself.
I have finished #36 Kentucky Crossroads for the Bow CW block

I didn't like making this one but at least I did it. LOL
I am trying to find a good recipe for Salt Rising bread. I tried one last night and it was like a brick. This bread is really different because you make a sponge and have to keep it warm at all times.
I have finished my large Counted Cross Stitch project even though it had more across the bottom of the people ,  I left them off.
I am going to hang it when I can figure out how.
I am already doing another one it is a sampler like done in the 1600's.
Have a great week

Civil War block #35 Star of the West

This is the latest block from Barbara Brackman's  block of the week. I can't believe we have been at this for over 7 months. But it has been a lot of fun.
It was a beautiful weekend here  no rain or even threat of any bad weather. I am glad the hurricane turned out better than they predicted.  A lot of rain is falling there.
I am finishing up my xstitch project;  now I just have some more backstitching to do.  Then put it together as a wall hanging.
I ordered two more booklets from 123 stitch and they are used ones as far as I can tell. I didn't realize they sell old stuff. But I do like them.
Have a great week.

Another beautiful day in the neighborhood...

even though I had a dental appointment this morning. She has been my dentist since 1995 is originally from Venezuela and her staff are from Cambodia.  I love them all.
We have had bad luck this summer with patio umbrellas. The first one was too big and the thing wouldn't wind down after a month. The second one was red and I liked it but one of the ribs broke so we had to return it. Today I bought a 6 ft.model for $10.00 it is red too and just right. It will probably last 10 years. LOL.
I received my box yesterday from my Secret Pal at the Board. Her name is Sarah and she really outdid herself.  Thanks Sarah.

She lives in Michigan and got the honey locally.

I also finished block 34 of the BOW CW blog of Barbara Brackman's. It is called Rosebud and I enjoyed making it. I hadn't trimmed around the outside before I took the photo so it looks kind of crooked but it turned out exactly 8 1/2 ".
School started today in our area. I remember those days well. I had to walk to school most of the time. In 7th & 8th grade we rode to another area  on the school bus. I loved those years especially.
Hope you have a great evening

Another beautiful day in the neighborhood....

even though I had a dental appointment. It was just a check up and cleaning but I am always glad to get it done. I have had the same dentist since 1995 she is from Venezuela originally and her staff are from Cambodia. I love them all.
We have not had a lot of luck this summer with patio umbrellas; bought our third one today for $10.00. It is red and only siz foot across but that is fine with me. The first one we bought was too big and it wouldn't crank down after a month so returned it. Then the second one was a good size but one of the spokes broke so returned it too. Today I got a cheap one and it will probably last ten years. LOL
I received my Secret Santa box yesterday and it was great. Filled completely to the top. Her name is Sarah and she lives near Flint, MI.
I couldn't believe it when I saw all she sent. Thanks Sarah.
I also finished the 34th block for the CW BOW at Barbara Brackman's. I liked making this one too.

I hadn't trimmed the edges when I took the photo. Have a great rest of the week.

A new blog

I have recently come across the funniest blog on here.
The woman's mother is a friend of mine and she is a great writer too. This new blog is about her family and the summer's travels this year.

What a wonderful day today...

blue skies, cool morning temps - 59° and then around 80° this afternoon.
Yesterday we went to Springfield to my favorite antiques mall - Heart of Ohio.
We walked a lot, had lunch and I bought a few things. It's hard to go there and not buy something.
These are 3 cross stitch mags I got for a dollar each.

This bowl is so pretty with a cottage in the center. I also got the small bowl with lid to use for a sugar bowl.

I am still plugging away on my large x stitch project. I am almost finished with the people just have to do the banner and then the border.

See ya - Darlene

#33 Indiana Puzzle

I finished this one earlier and really liked making it.

A lot of people have dropped out of the BOW it is kind of hard to keep up for some. Especially new quilters. I think piecing is the hardest part of making a quilt and I prefer applique. Of course I have only made 3 large quilts.
Have a good week

Another week has passed....

and I have finally gotten caught up with my CW BOW from Barbara's  blog. The first one is Empty Spools #31

The second one is #32 Carolina Lilly.

Right this very minute we are having a wonderful thunderstorm. It has been raining hard for about30 minutes. My yard and plants are loving it.
This coming week is supposed to be a lot cooler and not humid. It will be a welcome respite around here. My fav temp is around 75°.
My doggie Maggie hurt herself on Tuesday (we think chasing a squirrel) and is limping some. It is a lot better today and we think it is her hip. If she's not a lot better by tomorrow then we will take her to the vet. She doesn't appear to be in pain.
Have a great week.

Happy Monday...

it is another hot one around here. 88° right now but not so humid. I heard thunder a few minutes ago.
Our tomato plants are so big and full we had to buy more stakes to put in beside the others. We haven't had any red ones yet.
I am getting caught up on the blocks for Barbara's blog CWBOW.
Here is #28 Next Door Neighbor.

I also made #29 Railroad Crossing. It was by far a lot easier.

I am not posting these on the Flickr group anymore.
Recently I joined a message board mainly for needlework people. I have never seen such mean people in one group. Someone is always trying to start an argument or fight with someone else. There is no moderation like most forums have and it's such a shame. For one thing they have a lot of Off Topic posts and usually these do cause trouble.
I have joined the Secret Pal for August at the QB.  It will be a lot of fun.
Have a great week.

July 27th.....

it is going to be another nice day here in Buckeyeland. High 88° and less humid.  I just got back from getting a mammogram. Those digital things are great no more x rays.
I have finished the 30th block for Barbara's BOW Civil War blocks. This one is called Petersons Stars and Stripes.
I liked this one because it is applique. I need to do 28 and 29 but can't figure out what fabrics I want for them.
I also want to share some x stitch projects I have done this summer. Since getting my cataracts taken care of last year I can see so much better now and recently started again.

I have a lot of baby tomatoes growing on my 3 plants and the Sweet 100 are producing a lot too.  I am going to freeze some of the tomatoes for the winter for soup making. I don't want to can them.
We have had some good sweet corn so far this summer. I love corn on the cob.  I made some strawberry freezer jam too.
Thanks for looking and stopping in

It's a hot Tuesday...

so I have stayed in the house most of the day. At least the humidity is low.
I finished the latest Civil War block at Barbara's blog but it is not the greatest. It is called Irish Chain and is the 27th.

Most people used stripes but I used a sort of checkered look.
My nephew Alan came to visit Saturday from California. He had driven all over the upper western states with his dog JT.
Then went on to Indiana to visit his parents and sister. I was really pleased that he decided to come here too. He was driving back thru the south and then home.
We didn't do anything special for the 4th of July just grilled a TBone steak and I made potato salad. We never have gone to fireworks I can't take loud noises. LOL
But I hope all of you had a great holiday

Happy Monday....

Wow it has been really nice the last two days but is clouding up now. Supposed to get rain the next few days.
I have made the 26th block of Barbara Brackman's blog's BOW Civil War. It is called Barbara Frietchie Star.
I have been doing a lot of crocheting and x stitch this summer.
I really love making small doilies and pot holders.

These are the ones I have made so far.
I recently learned that Kaaren Johnston is ill and won't be blogging for awhile. I hope things go well for her. Also Kathy at Sentimental Quilter had a serious surgery but is on the mend. These two ladies are the nicest generous ladies in the blog world and I wish them the best.
I have this problem with my dog Maggie. She is in need of grooming and I would take her in an instant but she seems to be tired of it. A vet I took her to put her kennel cough medicine up her nose instead of a shot. Now she won't let anyone come near her head with anything like scissors. Her head is in terrible shape and messy as all get out. I am going to call the groomer and see what she thinks. After all Maggie bit her last time when she was trimming her nails. She wouldn't let me even see it.
Hope you have a great week.

Hello world

And a great Saturday to you. It has been cloudy here all day but a little humid and light rain off and on.
I made my 25th block from Barbara Brackman's blog on the Civil War.
This one was super easy and I enjoyed making it. I used some Moda charms for this block since the squares were under 5".

I made lasagne for supper. This morning I made a banana cake.  DD was here for lunch and going home there was an accident on the freeway so they didn't get home for over 2 hours which usually takes 20 minutes.  Around here they close the roads for even the most minor accident.
I have baby tomatoes on my cherry tomato plant in the pot. The other 4 in the ground (Better Boys) are just starting to bloom.

A cool Monday here...

and it's nice for a change. I have had some kind of virus now for a week. But at least now my appetite is back and food tastes good again.
I made my 24th block for Barbara Brackman's blog called Ladies Aid Album.

It's not very colorful.  I have really enjoyed making these blocks along with thousands of other people over the world. So many different fabrics and combos.
I recently read a wonderful book about a family who had to make tough choices. It is called While My Sister Sleeps by Barbara Delinsky.  If you get a chance to read it it has some very good lessons.
For my birthday my DD got me  Chicken Soup for the Soul for Dog Lovers.  These books are wonderful too.

Hot Saturday to you...

it is 91° right now but with low humidity.  We've even had quick showers.
I made my #23 block for the CW BOW at Barbara Brackman's blog. It is called Illinois Road.

I enjoyed making this one it is so simple only 8 pieces.  The #22 I had trouble with and will be making it over when I figure out the fabrics I want to use.
I have been doing a lot of x stitching and embroidery just for fun it is so relaxing. I need to put my quilt together (sandwich it) and get it quilted. I did buy the muslin for it earlier this week.
We just had coneys for supper and some baked beans too hot to cook much.
Have a great weekend

Stormy Monday...

it has been a noisy morning. I'm just hoping no flooding occurs with this bunch of rain.
I finished the 21st BOW at Brackman's blog for Civil War This was an easy one It is called Underground Railroad and looks like a railroad. LOL

Have a great - dry - day.
