first tote bag
scotty challenge doll quilt

I hate to say it but summer is winding down I can't believe it is August already. It has been a beautiful day today I went to the library and got the book I had on reserve it is so easy to read. I also got Crow Lake which I read about on someone's blog. Because of budget cuts the state is cutting back on helping libraries, so ours will be closed on Sundays again and not open days until 10 am. That is fine with me I was just praying our branch wouldn't close. There is a special election tomorrow to raise city income tax 1/2% so I hope it goes thru so firemen and policemen don't lose their jobs.
I made the tote bag and doll quilt last month. The little quilt was for a challenge to make using the scotty dog. I love those doggies.
I made lasagne for supper tonight and it turned out good. I usually don't like mine but this time wow!

Time sure flies it is the end of the month and we have had below normal temps most of the time. We did get some beautiful rain again yesterday.

My husband went out to a farm we know and got some more sweet corn bi-color. This will be the second time we have had it and the season is going fast.

I am in the HGTV mini quilt swap again for fall with Holee again. She is my favorite partner because I know I can count on her. The doll quilt above is the one I received from PamH at the Board I really love it and the bright colors. She is so nice of course she lives in Missouri LOL. I am working on a challenge doll quilt with Scottys and it is fun to do my own design. I am also embroidering some blocks from Willowberry Designs block of the month. She has three more to put up and I am working on block 5.
Do you ever watch Bill O'reilly on Fox News at night? Well I read his latest book and it wasn't nearly as good as promised. I guess people really care what he says but I take him with a grain of salt LOL.

Monday

It has been a wonderful day today. We had 2" of rain on Saturday and the air is so clean and not humid and the sun so bright. I love it.

I am going to mail my doll quilt and potholders tomorrow for my swap partners. And I have signed up for Holee's new mini swap at HGTV. I only want to do the fall one because I have enough Christmas decor. Fall is my favorite time of year.

DD was here on Saturday and we had a nice meal Cheddarwurst and potato salad and of course chocolate cake. She will not be coming this Saturday she is going to a craft show in her town and I think that will be fun for her.

I rejoined the scrappy quilters group. It was always a lot of fun but I don't want to do those block swaps. Heather said that was okay. I have missed those girls too.

Good day

It has been a dreary day today cloudy and cool. I have started my doll quilt for the swap and I am doing it in the bricks pattern. I got the pattern free from the Moda website.

The pic is of the quilt I received from Chele who was the hostess for the swap the first time and I didn't get one. She made this for me and insisted I take it. It is really pretty.

I finished my huge doily finally after a month and now I am going to make some more thread potholders from a new pattern I got on the web.

I should be getting the next one for the swap tomorrow from Pa. Thanks for reading -

Great Sunday

I haven't been very busy but thought I would write anyway. I am trying to finish a doily I started about a month ago have only 2 rounds to go.

We have been getting regular rains here which is sorely needed and I am glad for the farmers. Everything looks planted when we drive around. We are on the edge of this county so there are a lot of farms just a short time away. We know all the good places to buy sweet corn when the time comes too. LOL.

I have joined a new forum on Yahoo and I really like it they do small quilts and are so good. I hope to better myself over there. The quilt above is a doll quilt I did for a swap at the Board, I haven't received mine yet but it will be coming this week. I never did get mine from the first one I did there. The hostess is sending me one even though I told her she didn't have to.

I am doing a challenge small quilt which will have Scottys which I love. It isn't due until August but I am already using my thinking cap.

NQA show

I had a great time last Friday at the show. Firstly Jen and I went to Pat's house for lunch and met 10 other ladies there who belong to HGTV forum also. Pat made several kinds of sandwiches, salad and cheesecake. Some of us brought pop, chips and dip. cookies and fruit. We had a great time and Pat's sewing room is great - very professional looking too. It looked like a small shop.
Anyway Jen and I went over to the Convention Center and it was so wonderful. I had never been to a quilt show so I was amazed at the talent displayed. Aisle after aisle of wonderful art. I could never pick out a favorite one.LOL.
We shopped the vendors and I couldn't find anything I really needed but finally saw Featherweight machines in person - so cute, they were all $400. I looked on line today and that is a good price. On line they are very expensive. Oh and did I say Jen drives a Mini-Cooper what a fun ride it was downtown and she knows her freeways too. I was pretty tired that night but it was worth it.

Sunday

It has been a pretty nice day no rain but clouds and sun. We went to the buffet for breakfast this morning and it was so-so.

I have ordered 20 fat quarters from Whittles Fabrics for $20 which is an amazing price. They are all prints. Also was able to get a pattern for a crocheted Holly Hobbie doll. I had to order the head from TDCreations so I will be looking for the mailman at the end of the week.

My DD was here yesterday and she is reading the new book by Melissa Gilbert as she grew up watching Little House and still watches it when she can catch it.

I finished the curtains for her closet door but haven't heard if they fit okay. Curtains are pretty easy to make. Straight lines and a lot measuring too.

I am so excited about going to the NQA show this Friday. I am making a tag to wear announcing which quilt forums I am from. By the sound of it there should be quite a few there from 3 of them
I made the doll outfit for this 8" doll and I have another to dress. I call them the twins.

Ciao!!
