NQA show

I had a great time last Friday at the show. Firstly Jen and I went to Pat's house for lunch and met 10 other ladies there who belong to HGTV forum also. Pat made several kinds of sandwiches, salad and cheesecake. Some of us brought pop, chips and dip. cookies and fruit. We had a great time and Pat's sewing room is great - very professional looking too. It looked like a small shop.
Anyway Jen and I went over to the Convention Center and it was so wonderful. I had never been to a quilt show so I was amazed at the talent displayed. Aisle after aisle of wonderful art. I could never pick out a favorite one.LOL.
We shopped the vendors and I couldn't find anything I really needed but finally saw Featherweight machines in person - so cute, they were all $400. I looked on line today and that is a good price. On line they are very expensive. Oh and did I say Jen drives a Mini-Cooper what a fun ride it was downtown and she knows her freeways too. I was pretty tired that night but it was worth it.

Sunday

It has been a pretty nice day no rain but clouds and sun. We went to the buffet for breakfast this morning and it was so-so.

I have ordered 20 fat quarters from Whittles Fabrics for $20 which is an amazing price. They are all prints. Also was able to get a pattern for a crocheted Holly Hobbie doll. I had to order the head from TDCreations so I will be looking for the mailman at the end of the week.

My DD was here yesterday and she is reading the new book by Melissa Gilbert as she grew up watching Little House and still watches it when she can catch it.

I finished the curtains for her closet door but haven't heard if they fit okay. Curtains are pretty easy to make. Straight lines and a lot measuring too.

I am so excited about going to the NQA show this Friday. I am making a tag to wear announcing which quilt forums I am from. By the sound of it there should be quite a few there from 3 of them
I made the doll outfit for this 8" doll and I have another to dress. I call them the twins.

Ciao!!

Rain beautiful rain - finally.

We are finally getting some rain and it is heavy. They have been promising this for the last two weeks and it is here. The grass was beginning to brown up and I had to water the flowers and tomatoes every day.
I have been working on a doll quilt for a swap at the Board. It is a primitive design I made up myself. I hope it turns out well.
Next week is the quilt show downtown and I am looking forward to it. I will be meeting a lot of gals from HGTV forum and that will be such fun for me.
I lost my quilt blog sponsored by Kim Noblin at Block Central. The service provider was attacked a week ago and lost all of the information on all of the blogs. I feel bad for Kim because it is not her fault. I had a lot of stuff on there and it is all down the drain.
We went to a store here in town and I got two books about quilting and one of them is from Lynette Jensen and it has some nice patterns in it the other one I don't especially like and may take it back. The instructions are hard to make out.

Recipes!!!

I thought I would include some recipes I have used for years. I enjoy reading recipes and sometimes I just sit down with one of my many cookbooks and read away.

Easy Fudge

2 cups sugar and 2/3 cup evaporated milk. Stir these together in a medium pan bring to a full boil and boil fpr 5 minutes.

Remove from heat and add 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips, 1/2 stick margarine or butter, 1 tsp vanilla and 1 cup chopped nuts.

Mix well until chips are melted. Pour into a 7" x 11" glass dish or a 9" square pan. Refrigerate until set. Cut and put into covered contained on counter. The flavor is better if room temperature.

I got this recipe from a Marhshall Fields cookbook.

Potato Soup

In a large pan cook 1 cup chopped onion and 1 cup chopped celery in a tablespoon of oil I use Canola. Cook until soft and then add 1/4 cup flour and whisk until well blended. Then add 1 cup hot tap water whisking well and then another 1/2 cup hot water.

Add 2 large potatoes chopped the way you like them and cook until potatoes are fork tender. Be sure to turn down the heat a little, and cover the pan.

When potatoes are done add 1 cup milk I use skim. Heat until warmed and enjoy. You can add salt and pepper to taste.

Sugar Cream Pie

4 tablespoons flour, 1 cup sugar, 1- 1/4 cups milk, butter or margarine, cinnamon, 9" unbaked pie shell Place 10 pea sized chunks of butter in bottom of crust. Add layers of sugar and flour. Pour in milk slowly. Do not stir. Sprinkle with cinnamon (I don't use this). Bake in a 350° oven for 1 hour. Filling will look thin but will thicken up.

This is an old Indiana recipe.

I hope you enjoy these they are tried and true recipes . The photo is my old Hoosier style cupboard my husband gave me in 1989 a friend refinished it and he bought it for me. I can't believe someone would have painted that wood. LOL
It was built in Chillicothe, Ohio.

I have been busy finishing the doll quilt for the swap at the board. I am trying to make a label and will mail it soon.
I haven't started the mini quilt for Holee yet but I do have the fabric and the basic pattern. It seems like those ladies are way ahead of me in that dept. even though they are not due until July 10th.
I am going to the big quilt show in June with Britgal from HGTV forums that way I don't have to worry about DH hurrying me along. We are going to meet a lot of other ladies at Pat's for lunch and that will be fun too. Have a great day and thanks for reading. That is Pancho and Maggie looking at the birds on the birdbath, LOL.

A great Tuesday

I have begun the doll quilt for the swap and it is in the basket pattern. Those blocks are easy to put together. I have the border on and tomorrow I will start quilting it.

Our next door neighbors are trying to sell their house and move to the back of the neighborhood. Any way they brought their cats in their carriers over because the realtor is afraid not everybody likes cats. They have the cutest 3 month old baby girl Abigail and I held her for the first time. What a doll.

I mailed off the boxes for the friendship and kitchen swaps. I also pulled out of a birthday block swap at Connecting Threads. I am on 4 groups there. The people are really nice. But the blogging part is screwed up and I can't post a blog all of the time. I hope they get that part of it fixed.

Anyway now I can concentrate on the mini quilt swap.

I may not join the next ones though but I am thinking about it.
The doily is the last one I made in a CAL I am working on another in pineapples.

These are the Dotee dolls I received in the swap at the Board. The orange one is from Dorothy of Kansas and the cow is from ButtercreamCakeArtist. I really appreciate all of the work that went into making these. I also received some thread, 2 FQ's and a book thong. Very clever.
I had to rip out my block for the BOM and resew it and now it looks much better.
I recently downloaded the next block but haven't worked on it yet.
I am finishing up a thread potholder for the kitchen swap too and the monkey is finished.
It is cooler around here now but I like it better. The sun is shining. I worked out in a flower bed yesterday. I had volunteer snapdragons for years and they didn't look good last year so I dug them up and plan to plant something nicer.
