Pretty good Saturday to you....

even though the sun is playing peek a boo.
I finished the 18th block for the BOW at Barbara Brackman's blog called Union Square.

I went kind of wild with the fabrics. But I liked making this one and size came out perfectly.
I have been working on some Xstitch stuff just for fun. Now I have signed up for a stitch along at one of my Flickr groups. The theme is flowers and you can only use vintage patterns. So I am off to make a pillowcase for the pattern I chose. It's something different to do. Right??
DD came over today and said she is over 200 lbs. now. That makes me feel terrible since she is heavier than me and she is only 5"1" tall. I am 5'6". Big difference. She started gaining last year because of her medication for bi polar. My neighbor is a psychiatrist and said the medicines for that cause weight gain.
Anyway have a great day and Sunday.
DD at normal weight.

Happy Easter Saturday...

and Sunday. The sun is in and out but it is dry today.
I made my #17 block for the BOW at Barbara Brackman's it is called Comfort Quilt.

This was another easy one.
We are having DD tomorrow for Easter dinner, just the regular ham, au gratin potatoes, devilled eggs, rolls , green beans and coconut cake. It was supposed to be a rainy terrible day today so we postponed it one day since she didn't have to work.
I received from my friend Lillian the sweetest FQ with bunnies on it in the 30's style, a pretty card and a basket with a bunny and some eggs. It all came in a little bag she made. It lifted my spirits a lot. Thanks Lillian.

The little basket on the right is the one from her. The other 3 on the left were made by a lady I worked with many years ago.  I have quite a few items for Easter.
Hope you have a great holiday

Another block...

for the Civil War BOW finished. This time #16 called White House.

I don't know what the connection is but it is a nice block.
I don't read all of Barbara Brackman's stories but she is a great writer on the Civil War.
We got pizza for supper and I made brownies earlier.
Nobody in my immediate family was in a war but here is a photo of my Mother taken during WW2 she was so young.

Mom and Dad were married in 1936. My brother was born in 1937 and I was born in 1944, My sister in 1946. My dad worked at a GM plant making parts for planes to go to the war.  So I guess he did his part.

Hello Sunday....

things have warmed up around here - 82°
right now. Of course it will be leaving overnight. LOL
I managed to make the next block for the Civil War BOW called Ft. Sumter. It was a little tricky what with cutting the 45° angles around the block.

The rectangles are a really pretty red color.
I have been busy making biscornus with Xstitch fabric. If you want to read about them here is a great site. http://www.prettyimpressivestuff.com/biscornu.htm.
I had never heard of these until joining some groups on Flickr.  I guess it is an old craft.
My DH cut the back yard today it had clumps of grass taller than the rest so he just evened it out. Some neighbors cut their whole yard.
I don't even want to think about all of the yard work I have to do but it will be coming around soon.
I was so sorry Butler didn't go all the way but they were a great team. I just hope the coach continues to work there.
Have a great week

Happy stormy Monday...

right now we are having some thundershowers. They had predicted severe but so far not too bad.
I made my 14th block for the Civil War BOW. It is called Fox and Geese. I really liked making this one.

Butler University is playing in the title game at the NCAA's basketball tourny. When I was in high school at Ben Davis in Marion County, Indiana, we played our basketball tourneys in their Hinkle Field House. We would trudge thru several inches of snow in our flats (shoes) and cheer on our team. They never went beyond the first round but we still had high hopes when it started.
Those are some great memories along with the slumber parties we would have during tourney weekend. Nobody smoked or drank we just enjoyed each others company.
I was in the Booster Club all four years.
Go Butler all the way!!!

Hello out there....

the weather here is frightful - cloudy, cold and windy.
I have made the 13th block for the Civil War BOW it is called Little Blue Basket

I have also been working on squaring up the blocks for the quilt I am making what a job that is. 49 6½" and 36 4½". Now to cut out the rectangles to put it all together. There are 84 of those.

Anyway last week Whittles Fabrics had a special for National Quilt week and I ordered 2 sets of fat quarters for 5/set.

I got 20 fat quarters for $10.00 + shppg.
They are the nicest fabrics and add a lot to my stash as far as variety. The link is
http://whittlesfabrics.com I guarantee you will love them. They are in a small town in Kentucky.
Have a great rest of the weekend.

Happy Saturday

and happy spring which starts tomorrow.
Warmer and sunny today but rain Sunday.
I made the 12th block of the Civil War BOW from Barbara Brackman's blog .  It is called Louisiana.

This one was pretty easy peasy.
I also wanted to share a photo of my Christmas cactus which opened it's blooms yesterday. Mind you it didn't bloom Christmas so maybe it is a spring cactus. LOL

There are a few more buds that haven't got to the blooming stage.
I used to have a lot of houseplants but slowly I have gotten rid of them. Some were over 20 years old and didn't look very good like my jade plant I babied a long.
I also had a ficus plant that touched the ceiling. The old plants aren't interesting after awhile.
Hope you are having a great weekend.
